At Core Roots HQ, we’re always looking for new ways for people to discover and experience CBD as a part of their already healthy and natural lifestyle. That’s why we’re thrilled to partner with Vegan in NJ, a lifestyle blog and events company dedicated to animal-friendly foods and businesses throughout New Jersey. Our line of vegan CBD products lets those who abstain from animal-derived gelatin to try CBD without any worry that this phytocannabinoid may interfere with their values.
Our founder Cory Slovik had a blast on an Instagram Live interview on May 15th, 2020, hosted by Vegan In NJ founder Cherise Daly. Cherise asked Cory some thought-provoking questions about CBD contributed by the Vegan in NJ community. In this blog, we’ll share some of the main takeaways.
Takeaway #1: CBD doesn’t feel the same for everyone
Talk to a group of three people who take CBD, and you may get three answers as to why they take it. And all their answers are perfectly in line with CBD’s goals! As Cory shared on the Instagram Live interview, someone else’s undesired effect, such as staying awake or falling asleep, is someone else’s end goal for taking CBD.
Looking for the right way to fold in CBD? Start with a small amount and judge how it affects you. Think about keeping a diary or a note on your phone to jot down your experience each day. Be sure to write what time you took CBD, in which form you took CBD (whether a tincture, a gummy or capsule, or vaping), and take note of any changes in how you feel. Give it time, too – wait several days before adjusting the amount you take, what time you take it, or which form you take it in.
Takeaway #2: CBD isn’t just for people
CBD has the effect that it does because it interacts with your endogenous cannabinoid system, sometimes called the endocannabinoid system or simply called the ECS. The ECS distributes receptors throughout your body from head to toe, including your immune system, skin, and brain. Our bodies produce endocannabinoids, compounds that interact with these receptors and keep our bodies in check with their natural rhythms. CBD and other phytocannabinoids, or cannabinoids sourced from plants like the famous THC, are believed to interact with these receptors in similar ways.
As Cory explained during the interview, humans aren’t the only species who evolved to have an endocannabinoid system. All mammals, including dogs and cats, have an endocannabinoid system as well. That’s why something that can be so calming for people has the same effect on our pets.
Takeaway #3: Vegans should check the label for gelatin
Vegans are no strangers to reading the ingredients on any new product they buy, and CBD is no exception. While CBD tinctures are not likely to contain animal byproducts, manufactured ingestible items like capsules and gummies might. Traditionally made with bovine, pig, or fish gelatin, capsules and gummies need to be made with an alternative to fit a vegan lifestyle. Core Roots For Life gummies are made with agar agar gelatin, a plant-based thickener derived from seaweed.
Takeaway #4: CBD helps your body do what it wants to do
During the Instagram Live interview, Cory and Cherise discussed a common misconception that CBD is a cure-all. Not only is that a misleading claim, but it can be a dangerous one as well. CBD is not a magic pill that solves all your problems, but it can help bring about a sense of harmony when your body is out of whack – and your body can be out of whack for a wide range of reasons, from not sleeping well to feeling stressed. Being in this harmonious state is called homeostasis, and your ECS is key to keeping your body in that state.
Making vegan CBD products work for you
CBD isn’t a one-size-fits-all, one-and-done process. Getting to know CBD, and how you feel while taking CBD, is a learning curve that many have chosen to take. Now, thanks to vegan CBD products, those who refrain from all animal products whatsoever, or whose religion forbids animal gelatin or pig derivatives, can explore how CBD may work for them.
