Delta 9: Explained

If you’re involved in the CBD and THC industries, you’ve probably heard of hemp derivatives such as Delta 8, Delta 9 and Delta 10. These are legal in nearly every state and sold at smoke shops and dispensaries in legal states.

Cannabis use and legalization

People use cannabis recreationally and are prescribed it medicinally to help with a variety of ailments. Cannabis has been used for thousands of years recreationally for its psychotropic effects, but it’s now recommended by doctors in modern medicine for various issues. In legal states, people can now get prescribed cannabis. There is even an FDA-approved prescription drug that helps treat rare forms of epilepsy — Epidiolex.

For a long time, cannabis has been illegal in many states, and is still federally illegal; however, the 2018 Farm Bill federally legalized the sale of industrial hemp and its derivatives.  Thanks to this bill, we’ve seen a lot more hemp derivatives pop up in smoke shops around the United States.

Unfortunately, it’s difficult to know which brands to trust, as many use inaccurate testing data and may contain more THC than they indicate. A recent study conducted on Delta 9 edible products found that over 50% of hemp Delta 9 products are mislabeled. The same study found that 75% of the products were not tested for impurities and 45% of the products gave smaller dosages than advertised. So many good reasons to buy from a trusted source! What’s the difference?

Delta 9 THC and CBD are the most well-known phytocannabinoids found in hemp, while Delta 8 is a minor cannabinoid that is usually extracted and synthesized from CBD. Delta 9 THC can have psychoactive effects like relaxation and euphoria, and because of the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp derivatives are completely legal in certain amounts.

Intrigued yet? Well let’s dive in to learn more about Delta 9!

Delta 9 is short for delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol and is the most naturally occurring form of THC in cannabis sativa plants, as well as the most famous hemp derivative available on the market. Delta 8 is known to be similar to Delta 9, but with less potent effects, and while they both have psychoactive effects, CBD does not.

How can I take Delta 9?

Similar to CBD, hemp derived Delta 9 can be consumed in a variety of ways — you can inhale concentrates or flower or ingest with tinctures or edibles.

One of our favorite ways to take hemp derived Delta 9 is with the Core Roots For Life 10:1 CBD and Delta 9 Gummies. They have 100mg of CBD and 10mg of hemp-derived Delta 9 THC per gummy, game changing for those who need a stronger dose than our regular CBD gummies.

We always recommend starting with one gummy and seeing how you feel first. With 20 gummies in each bottle, there is 2000mg of CBD and 200mg of Delta 9 total.

Combining CBD with Delta 9

Studies show that CBD can offset some of the unwanted effects of THC. CBD blocks the ability of THC to overstimulate the part of the brain that triggers neuropsychiatric effects.

So by combining CBD and Delta 9 THC, the negative side effects can be reduced and the desired effects are enhanced — and therefore more enjoyable. This has been proven on a molecular level by researchers at Western University.

When is the best time to take Delta 9?

For those who suffer with various ailments, taking Delta 9 and CBD throughout the day may be beneficial, according to anecdotal evidence and research. Please use extreme caution when taking Delta 9 and CBD together, especially for the first time. Keep in mind you should never operate a motor vehicle after taking Delta 9 THC, including our CBD Delta 9 Gummies.

We recommend our Vegan CBD Gummies with 10mg of CBD to chill during the day, and our CBD Delta 9 Gummies for before bed. Delta 9 can be great to take in the evening for those who struggle falling asleep or staying asleep.
